Nestled in the embrace of Derbyshire’s countryside, Holmesfield is a village that captures the quintessential charm of English rural life. With its green fields, aged woodlands, pathways and bridleways Holmesfield is not just a location, but is steeped in tradition and community spirit.

There are several groups dedicated to enriching village life. The Holmesfield Village Society orchestrates a calendar of events that bind the community in celebration and camaraderie. One of the highlights is the much-anticipated Village Week, a time when the locality bursts into a glorious mood. The week in July includes the local vicars’ cricket tournament, an event that combines sportsmanship with conviviality, and pub quizzes that challenge and entertain in equal measure. The garden party at Woodthorpe Hall is a display of the village’s horticultural pride, while the well dressing is an annual tradition that unveils a stunning art piece, reflecting the village’s creative pulse and respect for age-old customs.

Events continue throughout the year with the Scarecrow Competition, Pumpkin Trail and Christmas Carols in the Millennium Gardens.

Holmesfield’s dedication to fostering local trade and fellowship shines through its quarterly village market. Here, artisans, farmers, and small businesses converge, offering a cornucopia of local produce, crafts, and wares, strengthening the fabric of the local economy and encouraging sustainable practices.

In the heart of it all stands The Angel.  For over 100 years our beloved public house has stood, albeit on a different footprint to the current building and has served as a haven for both locals and travellers. It is an established participant and patron of Holmesfield’s traditions. Proudly hosting part of the village market, The Angel offers a space where laughter and conversation flow as freely as the local ale. When the village’s calendar blooms with events, The Angel mirrors this with special themed evenings that resonate with the occasion, be it a menu inspired by the Summer’s Village Week or a ghostly gastronomic delight to mark the Pumpkin Trail.

The Angel is not just a pub; it is a place where memories are made, where every meal is a celebration of the village’s rich heritage.
